It's pretty likely if the Vamps aren't killed right off sooner or later you're gonna see a Vampire Protector.

There's no reason to think the virus wouldn't work on them. Of course, the real interesting thing is if/when a Vampire gets exposed to Tree of Life. Childless Protectors seem more capable of cooperation than Vampires based on the stories I've read, Vampires being ultra-territorial and will often attack each other if placed in the same room, which should give the Protectors an edge. the Protectors' best bet would probably be to spawn a large number of childless Protectors, which could then take on protecting the breeders as the cause that keeps them eating. This would be more interesting if the Vampires were given a stash of anti-Euclideans, or otherwise had the crucifix glitch fixed.

I'm betting on the Protectors quickly figuring out the Vamps' weakness to right angles and using it to devestating effect. Would the vamps be able to get enough food to survive, or would the Protectors wipe them out? Scenario 2 - the Protectors are from a fully developed Pak homeworld, but none of their tech is transplanted with them. Scenario 1 - the Pak are just as pretechnological as the vampires The Pak are several closely related family groups, accompanied by their Protectors, taken from their home world. The vampires are taken from paleolithic Earth, before the technological development of humanity. Other than this, both groups are fully compatible with the local flora and fauna, as though they had evolved there. The planetary biosphere contains enough thallium to support Tree-of-Life root, and Pak breeders (and the Protectors, I suppose) will fill any dietary niche for the vampires that humans provided. So I wonder, how would they match up if placed in the same biosphere? (I can't find much of a source on the Pak beyond the wiki link, unfortunately.Ī small group of vampires and a few Pak family groups are placed on a neutral, undeveloped planet. Blindsight vamps seem to be popular lately, and the descriptions I've read seem to make them similar to Niven's Protectors from the Known Space universe.
